Soft top cleaning a real life comparison

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NC1
  2. I’m based near: West Midlands

  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __

Whilst this is not an actual fabric soft top the material is almost identical. This has been outside under a tree for about 6 or 7 years with no cleaning whatsoever. Started with a spray of Milton diluted to one cap in 2.5l of water - twice the recommended rate. Left overnight and then scrubbed with a nail brush and hand wash detergent liquid. Whilst not totally as new I think the result is worth the effort and would probably be more than acceptable if the material had been in better condition originally. And it was cheap. Next step is to do the rest and proof will Fabsil. By the way its a barbecue cover if anyone is interested…

Firing up the barbeque for tonight then?

No just fed up with seeing it outside on the patio in this condition and thought now was a good time to see how badly soiled it could be before it could be possibly brought back to something resembling acceptable. I think the answer is pretty bad based on this try. Would hate to think that anyone would leave a soft top to get this bad but maybe some would?

Be careful when selecting cleaning mixtures for roofs. Some can really do a number on the integrity of the top, and cause it to fail.
