Soft Top Drain Holes

Hi all, I’ve got a trombone cleaner on order and going to give the drain holes a clean when it arrives. Have seen a few videos on how to tackle it and looks fairly straight forward really, my question is, can some kind of lubricant be used in conjunction with the cleaner? I was thinking of using some Autoglym wash and wax spray when feeding the pipecleaner down the hole. Any ideas peeps?Cool

I wouldn’t use anything that could become sticky and attract dirt or dust, wax unless polished, which is not something you can do in a drain tube, could cause stickiness, i’d leave it alone.

No cleaner or lubricant

Just as a tip: only brush in one direction, from top to bottom and pull the brush through and out from the underside (and repeat as often as you need) No flossing! up and down due to the one way valves, hopefully the videos say the same.

Ok thanks for the info chaps, the videos I’ve seen show only one way, downwards, so that’s no problem, just thought a bit of light lubricant would have helped, would have flushed it through well afterwards anyway.

What marque do you have.

I posted an image a while back showing the easiest route to the drain holes on the mk3.

Hi Keat6. Thanks for reply, its an 08 mk3. Have seen vids on how to insert the cleaner, so dont think theres gonna be a problem. Cheers

The Mk3 is a pain in the behind to get the brush in the first time, then you just learn how to do it.

We had to go in from the bottom on a 2009 car as the brush could not move it.

The guys used a long thin pin but got covered in water when the blockage moved.

Be careful not to damage the one way valve.

As the others have said do not use lubricant with the brush but once the tube is clear I pour a few jugs of warm water through to flush out the drain tubes.

Thanks again for all the info chaps, will have a go this weekend.
