Soft top latch rattle on the MK3

So I’m pretty sure my MX5 has this issue going on -

Has anyone done this fix before? I’ve tried to follow the above guidance but get a bit stumped, I’m also no sure where to get the felt from etc.

Has anyone done this fix before? and able to help me?

Thanks!

I’ve had mine off to cure this (along with all the other interior panels), but this is the first time I’ve seen instctions on how to do it.

I added double sided tape to any contact areas, it’s the same tape you can buy in roll’s to attach car badges with etc. The tape is maybe 2mm thick so provides a good barrier like the felt, I just didnt remove the tape backing when I didn’t want both surfaces sticking together. Works a treat

Also added a very small amount of silicone to the push in plactic clips, as some of those can resonate too.

Many thanks for the reply, Phil.

Would you recon this would do the job? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Double-Sided-Foam-Tape-Sizes-Number-Plates-Car-Permanent-Adhesive-Sticky-Strong-/151033788182

There is a range of sizes, from 6mm to 25 mm.

I’ve managed to unclip the push plastic clips (that are on either side), but i’ve been struggling to see what else I need to do to get the cover off.

I recently had to take apart the back panel, in order to tighten up and take out the plastic push clip, which holds the rear cubby hole clip (if that makes sense), and wow, I had to take apart half the car to fix that rattle! (this one! http://www.miata.net/garage/tsb/09-040-08-2032.pdf)

That’s the same stuff I have. I went for 25mm as you can always cut it down…

As I say I’ve been through every panel in the car and it’s much much better, but annoyingly one or two rattles are still there!

Ordered!

Does anyone happen to have more detailed instructions on how to get the cover off the latch?
Really don’t want to break things if I can help it . …

That’s the first rattle I cured on mine, nothing technical I just wedged a small thin piece of foam somewhere under the plastic latch assembly, no more rattle.
