Hi , Fairly recently and for no apparent reason, my soft top will not close properly with the drivers side window up, as the rubber seals seem to be hitting the window glass, nothing as far as I know has been damaged or put out of alignment , so I have to keep the door open or wind the window down to close the top, is this familiar to anyone or does anyone have any idea what would cause this new annoying habit?
Thanks, B
My model of MX-5 is: Mk3
I’m based near: North Essex
I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Soft top
Bit of a strange one and cant offer any help, sorry. My roof up routine consists of slightly lowering both windows, closing the roof, opening one door at a time and raising its glass, then shutting the doors. May be right, may be wrong, but works for me
Weirdly, after 5 years my Eunos roof has been experiencing similar all of a sudden. I have to either open the passenger window slightly, or open the passenger door, in order to close the roof and close the catch. Started this year, never had to do that before.
It has been the driving force to finally get down to stripping the electric windows down to fix the painfully slow (mm per minute!) window function - hence opening the door to close the catch on the roof. The car is now SORN and garaged until, probably, next March so it’s on the Spring List along with a complete new set of carpets.
I thought it was always the case when closing the soft top, lower both windows slightly.
BTW the PRHT automatically lowers the windows slightly when opening or closing
The manual says both windows should be lowered before opening or closing the soft top. I also recall the salesman telling me this when we bought an NC in 2011. On the ND we have now, both windows lower to about half way as soon as the the roof lock is unlatched.
I have a 1992 Mk1 which is very difficult to raise the roof on and to fasten the roof clasps to the top of the windscreen.
Trying to get the material the roof is made of to stretch enough to close the clasps was a nightmare. I eventually closed the windows after raising the roof to within about 50mm of the windscreen. Then I set up my wife’s hair drier to warm up the cabin area until I could feel the warmth coming through the fabric and then switched off the drier and found that I could then lock the clasps onto the windscreen. It appeared that the roof fabric was too stiff. CAUTION make sure your hair drier is secured to something like the steering wheel and pointed to the centre of the cabin area away from the seats or internal fabric.
