Soft top plastic window

Our mk 1 soft top is in excellent condition but the plastic rear window is difficult to see through as time has sent it cloudy. It is a zipped in window and wondered if any one new of a supplier who could modify the zipped in window for a glass one? We don’t really want to replace the hood complete as it is in such good condition. Sue and Mick

You can fit a glass window into your hood but it will always be zip out, due to the way the hood folds. Also you will find it a royal pain to zip in as it is quite heavy. Mx5parts do the window, but it depends on your hood being a Mazda hood

Basically it is an expensive pointless exercise when a good 2nd hand Mk2 hood and frame could be fitted and give you a hood that will go straight up and down with no zipping

A perspex polish will quickly improve the clarity of the plastic. Genuine Mazda plastic windows used a fancy Swiss made material, that went brown, and hardened. After market hoods generally use a PVC plastic, which just scratches up, and generally remains flexible. Genuine hoods have “MX5” on the zip toggle.

Not true! Simply fit a Mk2 frame conversion kit and it will fold WITHOUT unzipping. MazMania sell used Glass HRW Panels for genuine Mazda Mk1 with a frame conversion kit for 95

Renovo worked very well on my car - original hood with Mazda window.

Plenty of elbow grease was needed polishing inside and out but the difference was really worth it.

Hi Tiki,

Just a quick one about the polish for the rear plastic window…are we talking extreme elbow power needed? I have tried the Renovo, and I don’t consider myself a weakling but no improvement in the vision through the rear; to be exact there is NO vision through the rear. Is is worth giving it an extra try?

all best,

Tony
