soft top repairs

i’ve noticed a hole on my soft top which seems to have come from the folding mechanism rubbing on the inside of the hood behind the drivers seat. has anyone else had this problem and could anyone recommend the best way to fix it? obviosuly i’m keen to deal with it now before it gets any bigger! is there a specialist in the NW region? thanks katharine

Halfords sell a soft-top repair kit which works on small holes (10p size) or slits upto 10cm or so. Needs to be applied to the inside, so may not be an option if the folding mechanism is in the way.
The kit works fine; if you do try it make sure the activator inside the box is full - the first one I bought had evaporated!

Is it a MK2? If so there are modified (stronger) springs that can be fitted to NB soft tops with a VIN serial number lower than 113070 to stop “convetible top fabric tearing in B pillar area”. The part number for the springs are NCY0-R1-191 & NCY0-R1-192. The spring is the one (both sides) that is pretty much next you your right ear when sitting in the drivers seat, they are the springs that pull the roof rail that is just above the rear screen forward as you lower the roof.

Does that make sense?

Fabric (mohair) or vinyl?
I patched my vinyl roof for about 2 years in the same place using neoprene glue and off cuts of vinyl taken from inside the hood (one of the flaps that go around the roof bars had come undone so I cut that off and used it.)

cheers guys,

thats given me lots of options to explore!
