Reason for sale…
Baz-the-Maz was bought with a small legacy left by a relative (hence “baz”), having managed to wean Mrs Gummage off of the idea of an MG Midget(!!!) Baz was spotted for sale over in North Surrey, the owner had picked it up less than a year earlier as he knew of the car and its history, having used it as a daily commute circumstances had changed so he reluctantly put it back up for sale just as we were looking for a soft top.
Having been extensively restored but with a few mechanical issues to rectify ticked the box as having run a large agricultural workshop for 30+yrs kitted out with 4 & 2 poster lifts to service company vehicles doing the mechanicals was going to be easy, also if there is one thing I hate it’s bodywork and spraying so none of that was a plus!
Baz has been great fun to drive, it has always been dry stored/garage at home, but recently with my getting older and a miss-spent career + a few injuries has made getting in and out together with the basic seating more difficult and longer stints of driving have become uncomfortable so the writing was appearing on the wall that maybe it was time to change, ironically just before Xmas a relative of a work colleague had a Mk3.75 that was coming to the market and he had asked if I’d be interested?- a test drive later confirmed that perhaps the more plush Mk3.75 seating and a few other things may make it possible to still drive around with a roof down, again the incoming MX needs a bit of spit and polish plus one or two very minor mechanicals topped up with a bit of TLC. Game on.
The only downside appears to be that gone will be the nippiness and handling that came with Baz- what can only be described as driving a skate board. Whereas the Mk3.75 is much more like getting my works 3t Transporter rolling and handling like a big old blancmange!! Hell if we didn’t both stall the Mk3.75 a few times at first!!
Hopefully someone will carry on having fun with Baz, there is still a fair bit of life left in it yet.
