My new MX-5 RF will be arriving within the next month, and I want to order a couple of bits in advance.
One of the few things I didn’t like about my current MX-5 when it arrived was the exhaust pipe. It looks like a scaffold pole, but I got some push on tips which look much better.
I’ve seen a couple off different ones on Amazon, but from what I can see in various photos, the exhaust on the 2024 model looks slightly different to mine, so could anybody out there confirm whether these would fit?
Don’t think these will fit on the OEM exhaust as the existing tips are quite close together and I very much doubt that the much larger outside diameter of these tips will allow them to fit. The distance between the centres of the two existing tips need to be greater than the outside diameter of the replacement tips.
Thanks for the reply. That’s disappointing. Here’s a link for the ones I have on my current MX-5 which was a 69 plate. I’m not sure if the extra 20mm or so would make a difference, hence the question.
I was really looking for black pipes, as I’m trying to remove the chrome, (it’s a personal preference thing) and really like the bits of red on the ones I posted the ones for.
The distance between the centres of the tailpipes is about 73mm, so these will just fit. However, I fitted the chromed version of these and removed them after a few runs. They have an internal lip which interferes with the exhaust flow. Instead of a clean exhaust note they produced a “woofling” noise as a result of the lips causing turbulation of the exhaust flow and as a result I detected a reduction in power at high revs. The ND2 exhaust system was modified slightly compared to the ND1 to increase exhaust flow speeds as part of the power increase modifications. Fitting these to the exhaust will be a step backwards. As Mad Malc says polish the tips or fit a proper after market rear box. Even so, some aftermarket rear box’s may reduce power output. The Cobalt exhaust I tried sounded great but definitely had a negative impact on power/torque.
Thanks for the feedback. I’ve just shown the tips to the wife and she made the point that we got the new car in black for a reason, so why would we want to start putting different colours on it?
This brands that the red number plate surround and light up badges aren’t happening either.
For an easy life I’m just going to get another set of the ones I already bought, as I know they’ll fit and make no difference to the driving experience.
