Looking for some info from the knowledge bank out there.
If I SORN my car over Winter (yes I am a fair weather driver only) can I suspend or stop my Insurance too.
I am not sure if this is possible as I assume you lose No Claims Bonus if it is not continuous.
Any advice or information much appreciated. Thanks.
Yes you can SORN and stop insurance on a car that is parked off road.
You will normally retain no claims for up to 2 years before it expires.
However - stopping your insurance will not normally get you anything back.
Question is - are you sure you want to be without insurance on the car ?
If you stop the insurance I’m pretty sure you levy the right to that years NCB.
Some insurers will let you transfer to laid up insurance.
Think I would just reduce my insurance to Third Party Fire & Theft or just Fire & Theft, if you can. Things can happen to your car even when left on your drive and Sorned.
Just keep the insurance going the 12 months, I use to. If it’s parked off-road or even garaged it is still prone to damage and theft (see separate thread re shelf collapse and paint damage) Then there’s the bother of cancelling then reinstating the insurance, not worth the hassle.
Hi.
If you need any help with “laid up” insurance then please feel free to drop me a line.

Dan.
