Hey all I’m Justin from Maidenhead and figured I should probably start a thread for my new (and first) MX-5.
She’s a 2013 Recaro Edition NC so (I’m lead to believe) quite rare! 35k miles on the clock (at the time of starting this thread) and a previous owner did a few mods, most importantly the BBR 200 kit.
I used to have a Mazdaspeed RX-8 and really good to be back in a Mazda. The MX-5 actually feels even more fun than the ‘8 was
My plans are to keep her long-term, and gradually tweak both cosmetically and mechanically as funds allow. Possibly do the odd the track day, but generally will be a weekend/fair weather toy.
Stuff Done
BBR 200 kit (previous owner)
Eibach lowering springs (previous owner)
Perspex wind deflector (previous owner)
Piano black dash swapped for brushed metal (previous owner)
Full underseal
Pioneer double-din head unit
Leather/alcantara steering wheel
MX5things roof controller
RX-8 wiper controls
Door straps
Likewise shifter
Stuff Planned
Coilovers (MeisterR ZetaSport)
New wheels
Footwell illumination
Lots of other stuff that I guess will firm up over time
First mod I’ve done myself - new steering wheel. Feels great compared to stock, though I guess the splines were in a slightly different position compared to the OEM one so feels slightly angled when driving. Something I can get adjusted next time I get an alignment done, if I don’t want to try it myself.
Let us know what height you settle on. I’ve just had Tein Advance Z coilovers fitted and a ride height of 630mm (wheel arch to ground). Drive is superb but I do worry going over speed bumps.
So what does that make my NC3.75 (25AE) + BBR250?!
Yes, when I bought my 25AE (which has MeisterR’s) it had been lowered and was an absolute pain over speed bumps and getting in and out of anywhere with a little bit of camber. I got it raised and it’s the best thing I’ve done to the car - roadholding is only very slightly affected at the extremes, and it’s much, much more usable.
I honestly don’t know. I just brought it to Wheel Alignment Solutions in Southampton (who do all the Solent region alignment events, and who have worked on my last 3 MX-5’s) and explained that the car was too low to be driveable, and they adjusted it for me.
I’m in there next Saturday getting the alignment checked (at the Solent region visit) so I’ll ask them what it’s currently set at. Of course, any adjustment depends on the driver’s preference for handling vs comfort vs drivability, so what works for me may not work for you. I have my MeisterR’s set very much to the “hard” end of the adjustment range, whereas the previous owner had them almost fully “soft”.
Would you mind doing a quick and dirty wheel-arch-to -floor measurement please (if not too much trouble of course!)? Be interesting to see how it compares to mine.
OK, quick and dirty measurements on the offside are 635mm front and 630mm rear. (The nearside is too close to the garage wall to easily measure). I also have non-standard (215/40) tyres, which will make a slight difference.
Haha! Was doing research and posting when Joe bought his…
Don’t go to any MX-5 meets, but still doing the rounds for the RX8OC ones (Surrey, Oxford & Milton Keynes). Still loving every second of Mazda (Rotary) ownership and glad my son followed in my shoes with his MX-5.
Awesome thanks. So close to an inch higher than mine…..
MeisterR site’s a bit weird. Only the CRD in the ‘Products’ menu, but then not Mazda in the application list on that page. Then in the Shop they don’t list the CRD for the MX-5 NC, just Sport-Z, Sportive, ZetaSport and ZetaRace.
