the nearest track to me is brands hatch, but I thought it would be sensible to start by visiting airfield based tracks that have plenty of run off.
I have done various searches and it seems there is nothing close to me.
Dunsfold only seems to do experience style track days where you go to drive a Ferrari, Aston, etc…
I would appreciate recommendations for novice events, good beginner tracks and of course if I have in overlooked a good airfield day in the south/south east
I have taken part is numerous time trials and sprints over the years at North Weald. But it was a few years ago so you might want to check they still operate in this way.
I believe North Weald does still driver training but most of the Motor sport related activities have been curtailed due to noise complaints from the neighbors…
There are track days held at Brands but there are also other ways to explore the handling of your 5.
Grass Autotests are a good introduction and (usually) non damaging
Autosolos are very similar but run on tarmac
Sprints are held on tracks and are against the clock These do however require Overalls helmet gloves etc.
Tunbridge Wells Motor Club runs a series of grass Autotests at Edenbridge in Kent. The next one is tomorrow evening from 7pm (weather permitting)
Have a look at their website or facebook page for more details
Sevenoaks and District Motor club also run an Autotest series at Brands Hatch (in the grass car park by the heli pad) These are held on thursday evenings, again more details on their web site.
Sevenoaks also organise Autosolos and both clubs run sprint events at various venues including Crystal Palace and Goodwood.
If you are able to pop along to the TWMC Autotest tomorrow there should be several MX5s whose owners compete in various disciplines and will be happyto answer questions.
If you have any questions regarding the above please feel free to ask.
The auto cross stuff looks interesting but I think one of the novice days at brands hatch where instructors are available to hire on the day as required will be my starting point
