South Wales Sunday Run 17th August 2014

Time/Meeting Point: 9.45am for 10.00am start at Rhayader Services (LD1 6NN).  This is a Texaco Fuel Station incorporating shop, cafe and toilets.  It is on the A470 approx 8 miles north of Builth Wells.

Where we are going: Around the Elan Valley/through the mountain pass towards Devil’s Bridge.  Through Llanidloes to the Cafe at the far side of Llyn Clywedog.  Through part of the Hafren Forest, then north through Llynbrynmair and back towards Machynlleth.  Then over the Dylife mountain road, and  via another section of the Hafren forest, briefly stopping at the Rhyd-y-Benwch Forest Picnic Area.  Final section is Llanidloes to Rhayader.  In total 115 miles. (hence an earlier start than usual)

Lunch is at 2.30 pm at the Elan Valley Hotel (LD6 5HN)

2 Courses @ £10.25 with 3rd Course an extra £3.25.  Tea @ £1.60/Coffee @ £1.75.

Home made leek & potato soup with crusty roll (v)

Feta cheese salad with French dressing and croutons (v)

Home made liver pate with toast and salad garnish

King prawns in Marie Rose sauce

Main Course (All served with roast potatoes and vegetables)

Roast topside of beef with Yorkshire pudding

Roast leg of pork with sausage meat stuffing ball

Roast shoulder of lamb with Yorkshire pudding

Home made nut roast and gravy (v)

Bean Bourguignon (v)

Creamy mushroom pie (v)

Desserts

Home made lemon cheesecake

Chocolate fudge cake with custard or cream

Elan Valley honey and Penderyn whisky bread pudding with custard or cream

Home grown fruit crumble with custard or cream

Strawberry and raspberry ice cloud cake

 

The hotel have requested your menu choices by Friday 15th August (this helps with planning), but will endeavour to accommodate late choices on the day if anyone is unable to do so.

Thank you Chris and Brian for a lovely run today. The scenery was breathtaking throughout. The weather could have been a little nicer but didn’t spoil the day. Lunch too was very good - best we’ve had there I think. Looking forward to next August run.
