SouthWest400

if you’ve done the North Coast 500 you’ll appreciate the driving joys of a wonderful UK route.

The SouthWest400 starts just over the border at Gretna and skirts the Solway Coast all the way to Stranraer, continuing up the West coast to Girvan in Ayrshire before heading back through Galloway Forest Park towards Moffat near the A74(M). An additional 70 mile loop from Moffat over the Devils Beef Tub route to Peebles and back via St Marys Loch and the Grey Mares Tale waterfall is one of the best 2 hours you’ll spend driving in the region.

I lived in Stranraer for years, and still follow Stranraer FC.

From the supporters forum, I believe that there has been/is heavy roadworks involving

the A77 Stranraer to Girvan to Ayr. Major detour may be necessary over the moors.

The moors road is really Craggy Island. Just right for an MX5. Not.
