Space behind the seats

Hello All,

First post here from a forum lurker planning to buy an NA. Just wondering how to get all SWMBO’s stuff in when we go away for a weekend.

How much space is there behind the seats? I guess the short answer is “not much” but really, how big a box would sit on that little shelf with the hood up (or hardtop fitted) or with it down for that matter. Varies I suppose depending on whether there is a seat belt tower brace fitted.

Not the tallest of people so wouldn’t have the seats all the way back.

Just looking for ideas really…

Thanks

Ian.

You can buy a “roll bag” that fits behind the seats on that shelf, approx 20 ltrs which you can get a lot in if you roll t-shirts etc (pack like a carry-on airline bag).

If you don’t want a luggage rack, then a Boot Bag will sit on the boot lid. They are very spacious. The boot on my NA is far bigger than my ND - I have a couple of squashy Ryan Air carry-on size rucksack/suitcases that fit with loads of space to spare in the NA but take up most of the space in the ND. Check Amazon/eBay for carry-on squashy luggage for Ryan Air / EasyJet approved sizes (smaller carry-on size than any other airline, I would think!).

Welcome MX5 Forum Lurker :handshake:

Can’t Comment on the NA but have an NB 2.5 and Myself & Cocker Spaniel went Travelling in it for Nearly 3 Months and You’d Be Amazed What You Can Fit In :open_mouth:

I’m a Female - [Not a SWMBO] and Fortunately due to late Dad being Armed Forces…Know How to Pack

Also Taught the Boy Cocker [Bigger than a Girl Cocker] “In the Back” When I Had a Passenger and He Would Lie in the Small Space Designed For When the Soft Top Was Down.

Hope This Helps…[I Was About 5’ 3" in 2010…Since Shrunk 1.5 "… :smiling_face_with_tear:]

Thanks for the replies. That bag looks really useful for many occasions. Also a luggage rack is probably a must. I had one on my TR4A and although it wasn’t used often it was worth its weight in gold when needed.

Nice to know a Cocker Spaniel fits! 5’ 3" here too.

Best wishes

Ian.

Hi Ian
If your other half is shortish, you could try stashing the spacesaver wheel behind the passenger seat. The concave sideof the wheel fits into the seatback quite well.
This gives more usable space in the boot. Might be worth trying on a dummy run first, you can always put the wheel back in the boot when you arrive & unloaded the bags if you are staying in one place for a few days.
We also sold our bootrack & replaced it with a bootbag which we much prefer.
Hope this helps
Peter

My nc when you strip all the stuff out. Loads of space.

Just take less stuff !

Credit card, passport…toothbrush

Buy everything else there

I used suit holders with all my clothes contained on hangers, laid flat across the “parcel shelf”. It will take two without compromising your rear view.
Soft packing is the key. That way you don’t leave dents in your boot lid.

You clearly don’t know her!
