Can you fit a space saver wheel in boot of a mk3?
Hi Ronnie
Yes you can but you need to re-site your tyre inflation kit to give you sufficient space. We managed trips to Holland and Belgium with the wheel, a fairly large bag and other luggage strategically spread around the boot.
Best wishes
Derek
Hi Ronnie
This was a subject that came up a year or so ago but went quiet.
The space saver that suits this car is the Hyundai coupe, 2002 on, 5 stud.
Never really worked out if the Hyundai spare works on the fronts as well as rears. It may be that that a two stage process required if you get a flat front. Put Hyundai Coupe space saver on rear and transfer rear removed to the front. Could be wrong of course and welcome some clarity - perhaps it also fits straight over the front caliper?
The next problem is transporting the MK3 flat. Once flat these can be roped up into a smaller size that may go into the boot.
Yes, the space saver has to be used on the back

2024 update if anybody can help? we are doing a roadtrip into Europe in a few weeks time in a 57plate Mark 3 and concerned about road laws relating to spare wheels in other countries, not much space in the boot for 3 weeks away!! my questions are:
- am i over thinking this? other suggestions?
- are there good alternatives to the ones mentioned earlier in the thread 5 years on?
- if we need to get one - where would you go?
Then a Revo Rack…. vacuum attached to boot lid. We did 6 weeks Spain & Portugal in Sept ‘22, although did have access to a washing machine for 1 week.
Mx5 Parts do a space-saver for the NC.
This is my Enkei alloy spacesaver off the Rx7
No LSD in my 1.8 SE NC, so can use spare front or rear.
Good luck
Thanks David, that’s really helpful - i managed to pick up a boot lid rack for not too much money, so can attach a holdall too. I will go on a hunt for a space saver wheel and tyre as it will give me more peace of mind, even if it doesn’t get used…
