Spark Plug Change NC 2.0 Sport

Hi

I’m about to change the spark plugs on my 2.0 2010 Tech Sport and would like to ask the following…

1.Getting the engine cover off…is it just a matter or using brute force and pulling upwards to remove it?

2.I have heard that some people put a small amount of copper grease on the seat head of the new plug to help it’s removal in the future. Is this worth doing.

Many thanks for any replies.

Cheers

Paul

Yes, the cover simples lifts off.

I put a smear of copper grease on the threads.

How many miles have you done.

The plugs in the MK3 2.0 are high life plugs, which don’t really need changing until 60k.

They are quite expensive at about £10-£15 each

The car has 29,000 on the clock and I am aware that they are long life but since the car is 6 years old and we intend to keep it for some considerable time I was concerned that when the time came to replace them that it could be a pig of a job to get them out, and with th discount code for CARPARTS4LESS 12% and with 7% TOPCASHBACK I have managed to NGK plugs for £37 for 4

Well a smear of copperslip would have been a lot cheaper.

i have read that the plugs should be changed at 60K.

yet my dealer has also told me mine need changing on the next service (november) , car has done 30k.

for the dealer to do them will cost £100, so intend to change them myself.

what plugs are generally considered the best? 2.0l mk3?

Your dealer is taking the ■■■■, they don’t need doing until 62K, anything else is just revenue generation on their behalf.

oh, ok i assumed it would be 60k or x amount of time!  car is now 5 years old

My car is 11 years old, has done 58,000 miles, with no indication on any service records that the plugs have been changed.

Still running fine.

Just received my order from carparts4less and they have sent me 4 plugs with a code number of ILTRA5A-13G, when I checked this code against NGK website they state it should be ILTR6A-13G, does anyone know if this matters?

I have been in touch with C4less and they are looking into the mattter

UPDATE:

Had a reply from NGK and they say the plugs C4less sent me are not recommended for my car…so they will have to go back,

I have a set of 3789 ILTR6A-13G for my 6 year old / 42k nc.

Are you offering to sell these?

Not selling, but if you are struggling to find plugs then I paid circa £50 on ebay, not as cheap as you but it sounds like you have had a bit of hassle.

I have an old school attitude when it comes to long life oil and plugs, I prefer to change them after 6 years… probably worth 1 or 2 bhp

I had a major service done on my 06 Mark 5 at a none Mazda dealer on Monday. The  Spark plugs were supposed to be changed within the service price. Guess what, they never did them as they were Platinum plugs and would have cost £20 each. I complained about this, and they reduced the price to that of a minor service.

The car has 71500 on the clock and runs fine. Is it worth having them changed?

^^^ I would have thought the plugs on your car would have been changed at the previous service, circa 62-64k miles (I think) That price £20 each I guess wouldn’t be anywhere near that trade price surely, so if quoted in the service why omit them?

No idea why Mick. I was not happy with them at all. I will leave it now. She is running fine. Thanks again.

I was more concerned that Eurocarparts & carparts4less are not selling the correct plug.

NC Plugs are 60k miles or 4 years.I’d be concerned about them corroding in if left any longer - or even that long!

Plug threads - an old trick was to use a soft pencil to lubricate the plug threads.
