Speakers not working

Hi People,

So i recently became an MX5 owner. You lot were right. Such a fun car. Really puts a smile on my face. I am hooked already and have only had it a week!!! I have a slight problem i wondered if anyone had any suggestions.

The two main speakers do not work. The small speakers are fine and all other electrics are good, just the main speakers. The previous owner is a friend of mine. He said they both stopped at the exact same time. I have looked at the audio fuse but it is fine. In the manual there is another audio fuse but i dont have one in the panel. Im not sure if it is missing or was never there. The last owner never said anything about taking a fuse out.

I guess the answer is to put one in and see, but have any of you had a problem like this and know what the next steps would be?

Cheers

Might be an idea posting a bit more info about the car, and type/age of radio. If the radio itself is working, but not the speakers, I wouldn’t have thought it was an issue with a fuse to the unit. More likely an internal fault with the radio has developed. For instance, the Sony unit in my Mk1 dates back to about 2001, and its now barely working.

As far as i am aware the radio is the one that came with the car. Not been changed. The car is an 04 plate.

The radio works and the small speakers are working. Just not the two big ones in the doors. So if it isnt a fuse problem i guess i gotta take it to someone who knows what they are doing to look at it. That is not me!!! I just know how to drive ha ha.

Hi everyone,

So i have been looking at the fuses for this problem. Definitely not the fuse. So strange how both door speakers have gone but all other speakers are fine.

Any suggestions of what to try next would be very greatly received. Im a bit of a novice at this sort of thing.

Thanks

Have you checked the wiring between the head unit and the speakers? Something may have become detached from the rear of the unit.

Sounds like wiring issue .Check all the wiring from head unit to doors ,especially at sleeves in doors where they join to pillar itself.Otherwisw remove inner door card and check the speakers themselves for dampness or damage???There is a way ,using a small AA type ( please confrin battery size 0 to bridge the battery across the speaker terminals to chack if they are working.PS PLease check battery size/rating begore using !!

Hi just got myself a 2002 mk2 and have found that neither speakers in the passenger side are working but the drivers side works fine. Head unit in the car looks like the original as has CD player and a cassette. Is this a common fault and how do I fix it. Help please.

I too have just bought an 04 model and have exactly the same problem as you. Drivers sign fine, passenger side neither speaker working. Love to know if you find a solution.
