My Speedo is working very erratically below 40mph not all the time, just when it feels like it. if you can get the speed back over 40 it works fine.
What happens is you drive along in a 30 zone and it fliks a few time the just dies until you get it back over 40 mph. I think its something to do with the speed sensor i think its in the gear box, but at the moment can not find out where it is located also where the best place to get a replacement
Before you do anything rash, Get hold of the dash pod and lift it upwards and remove it, then you can access the back of the clocks and check the speedo cable is secure.
The sensor is towards the back of the gearbox. There is a hole in the power plant frame that the wire is routed though. I think its a green plug, the sensor is held in with one 10mm bolt.
I was thinking it was not a cable operated speedo so will have a look underneath. Any problems with the bolts like with the ABS system or are these straight forward to replace Thanks for the comments
I still had a small problem locating it, but once the under plate was taken off by undoing 6 bolts all was revealed and yes then it was a quick job, I found this link helpful too.
the only thing i would say about these notes on rev limiter, i put my MX over a pit jacked up the back so it was tilting forward. I still had about a mug full of gearbox oil come out. I had put a bowl under just incase. apart from that all went well, I have replace it with another one and tested it on the road against my GPS and all works fine
