When I try to put the roof down the LH window doesn’t open slightly - as it should - then the rear deck opens but the roof won’t. I’ve tried disconnecting the battery to reset but to no effect. Attempting to open the window using the window switch has no effect either.
The MK3 has electric mechs similar in operation to the MK1 and MK2.
I would imagine you either have an issue with the mech itself or the switch. If the power roof operates through the window switch to drop the windows, it could be either.
It would be a nuisance to go through the process of removing the door skin to check the mech and then find the problem is with the switch, so I would probably try to test the mech by bypassing the switch on that side first. work out where the earth and live terminals need to be to lower/raise the window and test with direct supply from battery.
Same happened on my previous NC1; turned out to be the window switch which is an integral part of the roof operation. It’s expensive to replace and here’s why…
The speedometer is showing the car moving The boot is open or the boot open sensor is saying the boot is open The car is in gear Each of the two side windows has lowered to allow the roof to move. The motor or motors are reporting no issues to the ECU
I believe if you download the Mazda diagnostic software on to a Windows laptop and it can be rented by the day from the Mazda European Portal, that will report the issues with the roof.
For the avoidance of doubt, No, I have not downloaded that software in the past, therefore I can give no further guidance here.
I would have re-flowed all the solder joints for the connector pins, because a couple of the others looked like they had the beginnings of metal fatigue around the outline of the pin and were likely to follow.
In my experience this is also the main cause for failure in car radios and head units, specifically the main external connectors (cable stressing and vibration) and the power amp pins (heat cycling causing expansion and contraction stresses).
Switch now replaced (trip to MX5 parts this morning) and all is now well (I managed to release the old switch through the handbrake gaitor so didn’t need to remove the console). Thank you all so much for all your contributions - my membership has just paid for itself!
I have similar issues re. power hood. SOMETIMES when opening hood LH window does NOT open. Hood functions correctly, folds into place, BUT warning light remains. If I then drop window using centre window switch, start to close hood and then open it warning light goes out and things work properly. Too bloody wet to investigate further at present. At least hood is fully closed.
