hi, I am going sprinting and hill climbing next year in a NBFL. I was wondering if anybody is doing similar and what size wheels you were using, 15 or 16 inches?
Thanks

I have competed in a Westfield and preference by majority was smaller rims (I was on 13"s sprint/hill, 15” on road).
I’m sure MX-5’ers then were the same in going for smaller rims.
Generally smaller sizes less than 15’’ are preferred not least because there is a greater choice of rubber. Just need to be sure if you go 15” the rims fit over your Sport brakes which are bigger on the front and rear, not all 15’’ wheels can accommodate the fronts. The 2004 - 2005 16” inch rims you saw on mine in your introductory post are the lightest OEM 16” rims saving 1.5lbs a corner though the powder coating might have added some weight. Useful MX-5 NBFL wheel info at Miata.net/faq/wheel_weights.html and wheel-size.com/size/mazda/mx-5/
I sprint / hillclimb in a NBFL RS (JDM Sport basically) and went to 15s from the standard 16s on the advice of Rodders, who converted my car to sprint / hillclimb. I prefer the 15s, however it’s not night / day and I’d be more concerned with tyres. FWIW I run AO52s, which are very popular as they grip well wet and dry plus warm up very quickly. I’ve previously used Federal RSRs (ok) and Nanking AR1s (very poor in the wet) and the AO52 are massively better. All List 1B - depending on regs / classes you might need List 1A, which I’ve never used, so can’t suggest anything. Wheels - as Art_Tidesco mentioned 15s need to be able to clear the bigger brakes on the Sport / RS etc - I use Enkei RPF1s, which do - light, strong and not wildly expensive.
I am using list 1A tyres in the Classic Marques Speed Challenge, which is handicap series. Been using Goodyear Assymetric until now which inspire loads of confidence, wrote this year off for numerous reasons hope to be back next year with Michelin PS3’s which were even more confidence inspiring during my one track day this year.
Thanks.
The series regulations are list 1A or the control tyre, Toyo R888r but that may change for next season.
