Hi All,
Firstly apologies, if this question has been asked before. I could not find anything on here before I started this thread.
What is the square / oblong cover / block next to the USB ports for in a 2018 ND? I can’t find any reference in the manual either.
It’s the cover for the satnav card
That is where the SD card lives, it has the sat nav data on. When you want to update the maps you have to remove it and use a PC to transfer the latest map data to it.
Or you can buy one like this 2023 Latest Navigation Card SD Card for Mazda EZ1W/2/3/6/CX3/CX5/MX5/CX9/GPS Navigation Map SD Card - AliExpress 34.
Or you can update to Carplay/Android Auto and get uptodate maps for free. A new usb hub will cost you £30 on Aliexpress and for the updated firmware you can pm me.
Thanks all.
Something so simple after all.
I don’t have Android Auto and I haven’t tried the built in map system.
Google maps on my phone does just fine and the phone sits nicely in front of the port area without falling
It can be very stiff to pop open, I didn’t want to force it the first time I tried.
It opens from the top and the SD card is removed by pressing it in
I was afraid to force it to see what was behind.
Is it easy to upgrade to Android Auto then on the MX5?
Essentially you’re replacing the current USB hub with a later updated version, which gives you the ability to connect to Android Auto/Apple Carplay.
This video gives a good run-through of the process, so you know what to expect in terms of interior trim removal etc.
Instructions in manual don’t really help. All round this little thing is not up to MX-5 standards.
