Why does anyone think that a square front number plate offset to one side of the car looks good?
Because it means I can fit a numberplate to my car without drilling the bodywork, and without a numberplate scuffing on a freshly repainted front nose. So I can attend shows and display my car like this.
Have to agree, it’s not a good look.
Why do people think that because they don’t like something that automatically makes it somehow wrong? Opinions are all well and good but when presented in an intentionally confrontational way that is clearly intended to do nothing other than provoke an argument they reflect rather poorly on the originator.
And in answer to your question - on a Mk1 because it keeps the car as close as possible to how the designer originally intended it while still complying with the current regulations.
Alfa Romeo think offset number plates look good (maybe not square ones in the UK but maybe in other markets maybe), and they make some really good cars. Give me a 156 Selespeed Sportwagen Lusso anyday!
Same could be said for the new Peugeot front ends but we should live and let live. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder is it not.
(I’m not likening Peugeots to off-set number plates by the way, I like off-set number plates)
I think they look like an afterthought.
Personal choice.
May as well ask why people buy Winning Blue?? or an 1800? ot any French car?
Yes, numberplates in general look like an afterthought, particularly when surrounded by a cheap vacuum moulded surround. Or those chrome surrounds you see on some cars. Or stick-ons, where clearly the owner is squinting and hoping the car was something else, begininning to L or J. But its a free country.
Haha, lets face it guys, if we all had the same looking 5’s…how boring would that be !
plus I like a stick on front plate cos it looks even better (in my opinion of course)
First job I did was get rid of my square front plate. It was mounted in the centre, I put a UK oblong there instead. Then I wished I had the square one back. Now I’m thinking of an offset square, but I’ll have smooth and paint the holes the other left, can’t leave them. Decisions? Over a year ago I would have said I hated them, they look cool to me now.
Lighten up, it’s personal choice and I don’t think anyone on this thread at least has presented intentionally confrontational views. Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, one man’s meat is another man’s poison, you can’t please all of the people all of the time, oh I could go on, but I already have, lol
I’m all for personal choice, just don’t like posts that are really opinions worded as statements. So when someone is clearly trying to provoke a reaction I like to give them one
I still have the Eunos front mounting bracket in the shed. centre mounting square, It came on the car so I presume it’s the original . It’s just another thing taking up space so if wanted let me know.
