Hi all, when i first got my mx5 i thought about converting the headlights to square units but wasn’t sure if it had been done before, so while browsing a totally unrelated thread i came across this car with the square lights. I know this topic has been raised before without success but I thought id give it a go anyway. So this is what im trying to achieve:
Does anyone know what parts i would need to get this to work and if it would be worth doing? Even better if someone who’s already done this conversion could help me out.
And in anycase, the black car is a US-spec Mazda Miata, converted to rhd, sporting a set of foglights, “converted” into headlamps. I trust this is not actually what anyone means. And I don’t see the resemblance either.
I would not have posted if i did not know what i’m talking about to be honest AT,and that is in a word a c**k up, by an owner that can not get their hands on the real thing.
No the conversion i talk of, it is a gen conversion from the early days,with full high and low beams, separate lights in one unit,an easier conversion kit to fit than the low pro kits,just a straight bolt in item unlike the low pros,no drilling out of welds, and no 6 months of trying to line up the headlight covers, you if anyone should know of this conversion AT,not to sure if it is Jap or State side???waiting for Chris to post some pic’s up.
But the conversion i speak of is not the ones on the roadster that has been posted,because they are just ■■■■,OK for show,no good for use.
The ones in my car are the same as that link you’ve posted as have had a proper look at them as i’ve swap the car and round so i could wash it! And with the after market front bumper, side skirts plus the deep dish wheel it looks so much wider than a normal mx…would of got some more photos but it’s dark

A few second hand sets come up over here every now and then but you have to be quick - they do not stay unsold for long. If you want a set you can also try yahoo auctions Japan (if you’re japanese is any good!)
Wow alot of replies! First off I didn’t mean to offend you muppet I just dont see much of a resemblance between your car n the black one. As for the RS active lights, there just what im after, but iv heard there really expensive. Doodledog how much did you pay for yours if you dont mind me asking?
Really expensive - YES! Cant remember exactly - they’ve been on there a while but it was in the region of £200 . I’ve seen them go for anywhere between £200 and £300 (more if you import them from Japan).
Thats not too bad acctually, I was expecting alot more to be honest. I was even considering buying some nsx lights and making a kit up my self. Glad i didnt now. Let me know if you ever want to get rid of urs.

They do seem to be coming up for sale less often over here. Keep an eye on nutz (that’s the only place I’ve seen them for sale) - like Wayne says though, mine are staying where they are for now but I will let you know if that changes.
