You can get slotted ones or as you suggest slot them yourself.
Slotting the rubber causes a mess but when they are done and cleaned up you can just use them when required.
To be honest you are over worrying about the strength of a new car sills but on say a 6 to 16 year old car when the ND gets older your idea is what is needed.
Itâs not the strength of the sills, itâs the strength of the pinch welds when subjected to side loading as I lower the car. The jack doesnât go straight down!
I have a slotted jack pad that I use on the trolley jack. It doesnât work very well as the weight still rests on the edge of the pinch weld.
And this is the sort of damage I am wanting to avoidâŚ
Mr Drumtochty - where do you put the pads of your lift to avoid this damage? Underneath, like Flyin Miata?

The photos arenât very clear, but I think heâs lifting on the pinch welds. Looks like his lift arms have big squashy pads though.
