stainless steel exhaust, need advice what to buy!

Was considering a new stainless exhaust, cat back only , and wondered if anyone could recommend a decent one for a 2.5

I have a K@N induction fitted and i am a bit disappointed with the sound, although i had a mini cooper with a playmini exhaust and no K@N and that was not a great sound either. So really i want one that would complement the filter but not be too loud, just a decent throaty roar Smile

I have read on here,  remarks about rattles from various types, a bit worried there! and checked mx5 parts and ebay but need a recommendation, straight forward swap, no mods to the body, i know some exhaust places will fit one for me, if i buy mail order, but is there anywhere in north west that supply and fit?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Cheapest way to go is probably get a custom cat back system made up to fit, should be around £300-£350 all in.

Or you could buy a backbox you like off the net and get an exhaust place to fit it with a custom midpipe…this is what i’m doing with a topspeed backbox from the states, local exhaust place is gonna fit and make up custom midpipe.

All down to what style tailpipe you want really… I was desperate for a decent jap can so got mine through a group buy… theres not too many backbox options for the mk2/2.5 unless you get something custom done at somewhere like Longlife.

Thanks for that ,main priority is the sound!! would sooner get all i need from one place if poss., so many things being done, car at rustproofers this week ,insuarance, being sorted , jobs being done at home,so the easier the better.

if you find a good custom fabricator they should (within reason) be able to tailor the system to get a mild/mid/sport sound depending on what you’re after.

I’m down sarf so can’t help with recommendations, but i’m sure someone on here can!

I put mx5parts rear ss box and a K&N typhoon filter kit on my 2.5 sport soon took K&N off waste of Money IMHO but really did notice a great difference when I put a piper cross panel on the car it run smoother and sounded better

Last piper cross i bought,  i did not fit on my cooper, as it would not, go on!! MECHANIC could not fit it either!! not unhappy with the k@n ,anyway if nothing else it will last foreverSmile but at some stage  i will have to fit an exhaust, so as the present filter has only gone on 1500 miles ago, i don’t want to change it, but thanks for your reply, i did do some research and it was 50 /50 which filter was best for mx5.

Thanks for your reply, oop north we have plenty of ferret cage manufacturers, but not sure about exhaust fabricators. Wink

Another thing i forgot to mention in my original post, is how long the factory exhausts last , i don’t do many miles now, but i can remember, (being ancientEmbarassed, when you were lucky to get a year or 2 before an exhaust started blowing. I also think,  mx5 exhausts are expensive compared to other models, please say if you think the same or disagree, a playmini cost me about £150, 6 years ago and was a perfect fit and good quality, just wish i had tried it with a decent induction filter at the time.

Hi there, I bought a Mk2.5 Nevada and wanted to produce a nice sporty sound without blowing your eardrums out on a motorway, or sound like a scooby boom boy. Sorted… Installed a protec induction kit ref:- Pt23-05 and a Powerflow mid sport cat back S/S exhaust at £300. You can find the Powerflow installers near you on the web. Nice & quiet until you hit 3000 rpm!  Love it!

I will look into  this ,exhaust wise, after mentioning above, my filter ,which i plan to keep, thanks very much.

Would still like to know of any exhaust place, in north west  that supply and fit, there used to be a few round the wigan area, until i bought the mx5Smile

Here is your local Powerflow installer:-

Hope this helps as they will build the exhaust to your specification.

Thanks very much for that, i could walk to south lancs estate fom here, Big Smile so i WILL try them without a doubt, i have heard the name but did not know what they did. Thanks again i really appreciate the info.

I have emailed Rye motors, a couple of times now, and received no reply, can’t seem to get them to answer the phone either, i could go down to see them,  but work hours have stopped me.Anyone know if they are still open? or if their email is still the one on the site?failing that any more opinions on exhaust systemsSmile/

If i can’t contact them, i will try elsewhere. And again i would like to know why the original lasts so long, mine is seven years old soon and still fine , or so the mot tester said, i realise low miles and lack of winter use is a big factor but even so 7 years is a long time!!Thanks Jan

I had a powerflow installed about 8 years ago, and it still looks like new and sounds great. Here are the fitters in the North West

Thanks for all the replies guys, plenty to work from, i have not given up on powerflow yet as they are only a couple of miles away.I will have to go and take a look at their premises, at weekend if poss., before i write them off, but i now have plenty alternatives, thanks again, Jan

LOL,sorry typed in dark, should be £325,cat back with lifetme warranty

After all the panic, i managed to escape today and go to rye motors, as mentioned before they are less than 2 miles from home and will build a powerflow for £300 plus vat, so i am going to make a definite booking.

Thanks for all the advice, epecially from the MXIcan, who sent me some pics.
