Stains - best method to remove them

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NC
  2. I’m based near: Formby
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: removal of Stains

Hey all,

What’s the best method to remove these marks that are on the bonnet.

Looks very similar to bird muck stains. I suppose i could try using a heat gun to see that works.

Any other methods?

Gosh. That reflection in the bonnet is confusing :upside_down_face:

Try a machine polish? I doubt a heat gun will do anything good unless the paint is quite new.

I agree with the reflections, i had just put the car in the garage when i noticed the stains.

Try this using your elbow so you can see bit by bit.
Basically, the “stain/bird poo” has probably etched the clear/top coat.

Just be very careful, but it does work.

Exactly what i use. I would also add that if Mark is going to use elbow grease, then DON’T use circular motions. Finish with Auto Glym resin polish or similar.

Funnily enough I have that too.

By way of alternative I’d suggest maybe try Meguairs Ultimate Compound? Genuinely one of the best “over the counter” product I’ve used in years. Removed very old tar spots, great for hairline scratches and definitely helped to ease the appearance of older marks/stains natural wear and tear from sunlight. As with other advice, avoid circular motion and buff back afterwards then seal with a decent wax.. Brought back and blended in some blooming on the boot against the wings..

Thanks.
I did try that first and still on the shelf.
I found the Farecia G360 much better. :man_shrugging:
We do have the Copper Red Mica colour in common though.:+1::slightly_smiling_face:

Brilliant, thanks all. Ill give it ago after the alloys are repaired.

I put a coat of fusso dark on Moxie this morning after trying to remove the spots. I’ll order the first suggestion as i already have the Ultimate compound that I’ve used over the many years.

Just to follow up on the stains. With some elbow grease, the Farecla tip + a little bit of Meguiars and some Autoglym Soft polish, I have managed to remove most of the stains.

There are still some in the groves but not as much as there previously was.
