Stats That Blow Your Mind

Apart from the obvious, that 99.9% of all stats are made up.

I heard today on Times Radio that the UK has over 800 Peers, and over 600 MP’s, that this high number is only beaten in the world by China and the Communist Party parliament.

Madness.

We’re not exactly ‘twinned’ countries are we?

Anyone heard an interesting stat recently they want to share? or not…

Oh sorry I didn’t think it was specially political, I just thought it was fascinating for this tiny damp rock in the North Sea.

Scrap the thread if these things normally get the boot, don’t want to start a bun fight!

For some reason while visiting a friend on the South coast the following question arose:

If you took the entire population of China and relocated them to the Isle of Wight, how much space would each person have?

The answer (according to ChatGPT) is a square 52cm on a side.

And this was news to you?

Family member stated that 4% of animals in UK are wild. I assume excludes birds, bugs, fish.

Wow is that all? Thats a bit sad.

Seen loads of kites over the last couple of years in Suffolk, so some creatures are doing well, but at the expense of others I guess :+1:

Estimated 202 million chickens are killed every day globally, 140,000 every minute.

That’s a lot of slaughtering.

Fwiw, Red Kites are carrion feeders, their recent population rise hasn’t particularly had a predation effect on other species.
Magnificent birds & great fliers too.
Personally, they give me the willies as they look like the facehuggers from the Alien movies to me.:grimacing:

And a few miles to the east on the Moors , we regularly find unexploded WW 2 mortar shells while fishing the River Rye, and our keeper gets the bomb squad out to blow them up . It was a training area and other remnants are visible locally- including bullet marks on Rievaulx Abbey , used as a rifle range .
