Thought I should I invest in a steering wheel security lock for my NC but finding the right one is proving tricky. I brought a Stoplock but it didn’t suit my MX5 at all, it was a very loose fit on the steering wheel and moved about too much - think it was intended for cars with a bigger steering wheel boss. I then brought a Halfords T Bar steering lock which is somewhat better but the clamp on the steering wheel rim is a loose fit and again it moves about on the dash more than I would like so think this is going to have to go back too! Any recommendations for security lock that’s a good fit for an MX5?
Just out of interest, why does it have to be a ‘good fit’. If it covers the wheel and can not be removed surely it is doing it’s job. Similarly with the t bar, if it can not be wiggled free then again it is doing it’s job. Having seen some tests on these type of items I suggest that it is the visual deterrent that is more likely to put a thief off.
I have a Disklok. Size small fits snug around my NC steering wheel perfectly.
I pair it with this to keep the steering wheel protected when putting it on or taking it off.
Yep, was going to say the same - Disklok Small - and another vote for a wheel cover underneath
Presume it was the larger Disklok version you tried originally?
The bar type is better than nothing but a Disklok is the thing.
When I had a series 3 land rover I had a Disklok, as just about all other owners did - otherwise they were likely to be stolen.
The bar type can too easily be removed by cutting the wheel rim.
The only issue with the Disklok is they are big and heavy to stow when you take them off.
I store mine in the boot with this case to stop it rattling around when I’m driving.
