A word of warning guys and dolls, my son was using my eunos today and was stopped by a lovely police officer and given a ticket because the front number plate was a stick on one.The plate has been on since i got the car nearly 5 years ago and has been through 4 mots without a mention. Now we all know there not legal but we all take the chance so be aware! thanks to GMP for being vigilant im sure if my son was in an audi S3 and hadn’t worked a day in his life he would of been treated the same… in it !
Why did he ticket him? I’m sure if the numbers and letters are the regulation size, then its not justified?

it was mounted on the nosecone not on the bumper (like an E type jag)font is legal and not altered in anyway but the plate had no BS number or suppliers details. The
officer said the plate could not be seen by pedestrians (which it can)the officer also managed to spell our surname wrong despite having my sons licence in his hand.
Think he was just bored and didn’t really know what he was doing because he told my son he could be sent on a driver awareness course! REALLY for a non compliant number plate.i will just pay the fine and put it down to experience.
Here’s the story on why stick on number plates are illegal https://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=10539
Spotted this in our local paper

I hate to do it but I think I am going to have to go back to a boring traditional style front plate
Rod
received a £100 fine in the post today for nose mounted number plate.
We all do things that are not strictly within the law and very seldom get done for them. The suggestion in your post was that you were actually aware of it, but now having been picked up on it for the first time in 5 years you obviously feel you’re wrongly done by, why?
I got popped for speeding a few years ago for the first time despite having been driving and riding for more than 40-odd years and frequently exceeding the speed limit by my own choice on numerous occasions, and consider it’s an absolute minuscule percentage against having got away with it for so long.
I truly don’t wish to be offensive, but there’s really no point in moaning or condemning the Officer because you get done once in 5 yrs, but rather consider yourself lucky for the other 1,824 days that you didn’t get pulled.
Incidentally, I have an illegal front number plate on the car and also one on the back of my bike, my choice, but I won’t be complaining to the forum if I get done…
good shout ,snap
The odds of being caught out with illegal plates will be much higher now since the introduction of ANPR cameras.
Only last week I saw a cop booking a guy for dodgy number plate letter/number spacing. Pleading ignorance is no excuse. Risk at your peril.
I was considering going to a stick on shortly…may have a rethink now.
Anyone know any options (apart from the squarer option in the lower right of the bumper) that remain legal but allow the be bulky front number holder to stop spoiling the front of the car?

It is indeed refreshing to read that someone admits to speeding on occasions - well done Steve for being so honest.
I am not condoning speeding, but we all do it, whether on purpose or by accident, but there seems to be a rather ‘holier-than-thou’ thing going on about speeding on this forum, that is sometimes quite galling.
Nobody is perfect (despite what some members would have us believe), and despite our best intentions, we all make mistakes - we’re only human after all !
Stick-on number plates: I often feel that the looks of an MX-5 would be enhanced by an E-Type Jaguar-style number plate on the front, but there’s no getting away from the fact that that kind of stick-on / DIY plate is now illegal, so we try it at our peril.
Incidentally, what about E-Type Jaguars wearing the original-style front number plate in the 21st century ? Is it illegal for them, or are they exempt from modern law because of their age - rather like seat belts are not a requirement on cars built before a certain year ?
