(Stick on) Number plate nd

I noticed that someone on here has a stick on number plate above the Mazda badge. I quite like the look of that would anyone no if that would be legal

I would have thought so, its reasonably flat and central, it should be easily readable.

I think it depends on year of first registration? Law changed in 2001 and accordingly, number plates must be manufactured from reflective material and must be marked with the official British Safety Standard. These are two areas that stick-on plates often fail on. To pass its MOT, there are stipulations regarding a car’s number plate strength too.

Seems like they are being failed unnecessarily then.

From the MOT Inspection Manual…

“You do not need to check:

  • the supplier’s name
  • postcode
  • BS number
  • logos or emblems outside the minimum margin around the registration number”

I have a stick on number plate which is reflective and has the BS code. It works in car parks which have number plate recognition. I fitted it to have maximum airflow through the spyder grill.

I found this part interesting: Registration plates fitted to vehicles manufactured on or after 1 January 1980 must: “be fitted vertically, or as close to vertical as is reasonably practicable”
This is why mine is fitted below the badge.
