"Sticky Throttle" any ideas?

Hi.

Both my 1.8 SVT and my 1.6 have “sticky throttles” and by that, I mean that they are almost impossible to “roll on and off the gas” which makes them very irritating/hard to drive.

My other 1.8 is silky smooth and a pleasure to drive, so I know they can be just like regular cars to drive.

Anyone got any ideas how to solve this issue?

To my basic mind, it’s almost like a sticking throttle cable feel or that feeling of having to “break the vacuum” on an old Carb when you try to set off from a standstill.

Thanks

I would disconnect the throttle cable at the engine end and see if the cable is free to move in its outer sheath if not sort that.

Also move the mechanism on the engine side and again if that is sticky sort that.

Not rocket science.

Yes, if it is mechanical/physical producing stiffness or jerkiness, likely to be cable or possibly pedal operation that needs attention. If the physical side is fine but car response is the problem, probably throttle body.

Job sorted.

Lubed up the throttle pedal pivot and it’s all good now.

Checked the cable for smooth operation by removing the throttle body end of it first an that was OK so I did the pedal.

Thanks for your suggestions guys

I remove the air feed hose now and again and spray WD40 on the butterfly pivots inside the throttle housing.
