On my mk 2.5 have noticed that the steering around the dead ahead position is a bit stiff & vague and needs a little help to center properly. I suspect worn ball joints maybe? Am I thinking in the right direction?
you might be right but I find the steering quite stiff in my MK2.5 all the time when ever I use it at the weekends as it simply is compared with the much newer daily driver with electric power steering in which you can turn the wheel when car is stationary with a finger tip!
New ball joints fitted this morning & all is now well. They must have just become very stiff as there was no play in them at all.
