Stoopid newbie question about the MK3 single post to hold drivers mat

Where the hell is it??

Apologies if this is in the wrong part of the forum. And I’m almost embarrassed about asking this but my mat is all over the shop

Get one from mx5 parts. Cheap as chips, screws into the carpet and then the mat fits over the post, twist and locked.

do it quick, that’s not safe…

That is a standard MX5 mat as supplied by Mazda. There should be a bracket with a turn buckle fixed centrally in front of the seat that the hole in the mat locates with. I suspect yours has gone walkabout or it may be hiding under the seat.

This may help

All good advice posted above  thing is, if you don’t ask you’ll never know, we were all newbies once. Often, these brackets get turned around under the seat and appear to not be there, have a rummage around to see if that’s happened. Failing that, new ones are available, easy to fit so go for it! Mats that move about and slide forward are potentially dangerous as they could affect pedal operation, you never know, you might even get more performance out of the car if the loud pedal can go right to the floor!  Only joking there

Thank you all, thank you Captain for the pic. Yep, my bracket has gone walkies in it’s 35000 miles. I wondered why that screw was under the seat like that?! Easy fix, thank you.

And thanks for tolerating stoopid newbie questions! Such a helpful, friendly place here! I was told once that there actually are no stupid questions, just stupid answers.

Not a stupid question  at all. I had a rogue mat in my 2.5 when I bought it. Got talking to a guy at a rally in the car park not long after and he just happened to have a spare bracket. 10 minuites later after browsing the traders stalls I had a correct mat.

Does anyone have a link for this part? I can’t seem to find it anywhere??

Looks like they aren’t available new so a breaker would have them. Alternatively, these are available new,

Thanks Barrie,

Shame that, that clip requires me to make a hole in my carpet! Not a fan of that. I better get ringing around some breakers.

Thanks again,

David

It looks like the original fixing would be pop rivetted to the seat frame.

I’ve had a look around and no sign of a replacement available new.

If you could find yours and in one piece, would be feasible to reattach or get one from a breaker.

Might be worth taking the one off the passenger side as a temporary fix.

Given oommon MK3 issues with clutch pedal, you do not want the carpet to get involved in that area.
