Strange sticking brake, Mk1 1.8

Following from here:

So originally, front offside brake sticking caused a road trip to be aborted after 2 miles, though by the time I got back, it seemed to have resolved. But no matter, I put it away, took alternative transport.

Taking the caliper off, the pins seemed a little stiff, and I saw a torn upper sliding pin boot. New boots fitted, correct greases used, but the car has been pretty much unused since May, due to overseas business and other travel.

Today, gave it a run out. After 2 miles or so, I did notice a squirreling behaviour under braking. Continued to B&Q, another 5-6 miles. Offside front caliper redders to touch, but not smoking. Others were just warm.

Drove home, carefull, but still speeds of upto 70mph. Car feels normal. Front brake is now same temp as nearside.

So what is happening, before I reach for the phone to order a new caliper? The present caliper is a pattern item from Autolinkuk is 2021, and done about 6000kms. The piston looked clean and shney, and there really isn’t a lot on a front caliper to go wrong, Front flexi hoses are original Mazda, so 1996 and 280k kms on them. Is this what happens when the flexi hoses start to fail; that they can stick or collapse on the inside, trapping fluid, but easing off as the heat cycles through the hosing.

dont know about the flexi hoses but i had a similar problem with a non OEM rear caliper bought from MX5 parts. after a couple of those overheating events i gave up in the end and replaced the caliper but couldn’t for the life of me work out what was causing it .

not had a problem since

This tells me what I need to do
