Sunday drive on 11th August to Hayling Island Donkey Sanctuary

Dear All,

Our very own “Philly Boy”(Phil Upshall) has kindly arranged a visit to Hayling Island Donkey Sanctuary, where he volunteers, on a regular basis.

UPDATE from Phil on 30/07/19: Although the Donkey Sanctuary is easy to find, Phil says its on the left, just after the Yew Tree Pub.The definitive address is: Mill Rythe Lane, Hayling Island PO11 0QG.

Also, it is suggested the people bring folding chairs, as there is limited seating in the tea hut.

Also, the “Hayling Island Little Steam Railway”, will be open on the seafront. If members also wish to partake in a ride on this Little Railway, as it is a nice way to spend an hour for only £4 per person for a return trip.

The Solent Area Programme, originally showed this event as taking place on Sunday 4th August but unfortunately, the Donkey Sanctuary is unable to accommodate us on this day.  So, please take this post, as advance warning that the new date for the August Sunday drive is 11th August.

Entry will be free and if we wish to set up and fly the flag etc, we will need to be there for 11am, when they open and tea, coffee and cakes will be available.

Parking on site is limited, approx 10 cars, but good off-site parking is available 200 yards away and on hard ground, as it’s a boat yard and also there is safe roadside parking. The first ten cars to respond, will be accommodated on site. Others will have to park down the road.

Entry to the Donkey Sanctuary is free and Phil will be there early and meet us and his all hoping to set up a “meet and groom the Donkey session” for us. So, to this end, there will be a donation to the Donkey Sanctuary required, in lieu of an admission charge.

A scenic drive to The Sanctuary will be forthcoming nearer the time.

Best Regards

Mal, Terry & Phil

Hi Phil (and Mal)

Please sign us up (Janet and Simon) - hoping that the good weather of late continues - not just another day with thunderstorms as a consolation.

Kind regards
Simon

Just reviewed the list for tomorrows drive and visit to Hayling Island Donkey Sanctuary and we have the requisite number, of 10 cars, that can park in the Donkey Sanctuary itself, which is great news.

Numbers are a bit down on our normal number for a Sunday drive  but this is due to it Bering holiday season, so only to be expected.

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at Sainsbury’s, Farlington

Mal & Terry

Hi Mal.

What time are people meeting at Sainsbury’s as I can’t see any mention of this on the forum.

Richard and Clare.

Hi all,

As per the events page were meeting at 9.50/10am at Sainsburys tomorrow

“A short drive (approx 30/40 mins) will take place, starting at Sainsbury’s, Fitzherbert Rd, Portsmouth PO6 1RR to the Sanctuary and we will park up as directed on arrival. We will meet up at Sainsbugs, from 09:50 am onwards, ready for a prompt departure at 10:20am in order to arrive at the Donkey Sanctuary for 11:00 am”

A fantastic visit to The Donkey Sanctuary yesterday and what a good turn-out, 12 MX5’s and we all managed to park in the area set aside for us and fly the Solent Area Flag.

I was really impressed with the Sanctuary and the facilities itr had there and one could see that the donkeys are exceptionally well cared for.

Our very own Phil did a great talk and explained to all gathered how the sanctuary rescues the donkeys, from going into the food chain and cares for them and has built up the business over the years, its all credit to Tracy & Tim the founders of The Donkey Sanctuary.

Lovely coffee, tea and cakes were enjoyed by all and the Brucie Bonus was Val & Bob winning the shiniest MX5 and Bob being presented with a personalised certificate by Tim, with a little something for Val too - a big well done to Val & Bob A really nice gesture by the Sanctuary and just shows how much they appreciated our attendance yesterday.

Many thanks to Phil for such a lovely event and as promised the sun came out and we had a great time, with just one very small shower just before Val & Bob were presented with their certificate.

Regards

Mal
