Surface corrosion on springs after 4 months - is this acceptable?

Hi guys, would appreciate your advice on this.

Back in April I noticed that two of my four springs were very badly broken, so rather than faff with it myself I took the car straight down my local garage to have all four replaced. They supplied the parts (~£200).

This weekend I’ve been doing my brakes, and I’ve noticed that at the top and bottom of the springs, the coatings are peeling away, and of course there is surface corrosion/bubbling in places. Is this normal, or should I demand the garage sorts it out?

I can just imagine that they would say "well this is normal sir"and I would like to be able to argue with confidence if I am in the right.

Cheers, Matt.

Rust after 4 months?   Take it back to the garage - is it an official dealer?  I would have thought there would be somehting like 12 months guarantee on any new parts fitted.

Thanks for the reply. No it was not an official dealer, but they were recommended to me on these forums. Never had a complaint with them before. It’s MOTest in Reading.

Any other opinions? I don’t want to get all hot under the collar about it if this is perfectly normal.

Don’t get yourself all hot and bothered, they are bound to get chipped and rusty over time, it is quite normal. Considering where they are no one can expect them not to get chipped etc. quite awhile ago I painted mine with Hammerite but they still get mucky and I expect chipped.

OK if you say so, 4 months just didn’t seem very long to me for the coating to be peeling away. I’ll clean them up and treat them to some rust converter/Hammerite in that case.
