Meeting Place : Hilliers Garden Centre, Brighton Rd, Horsham RH13 6QA Timings : 1000hrs : Arrive from 1000hrs for brunch or refreshments. 1130hrs : Depart Hilliers Garden Centre 1245hrs : Arrive at Croydon Airport Visitor Centre Car Park 1400hrs : Guided Tour around the Visitor Centre 1530hrs : Guided Tour Ends 1600hrs : Depart Airport for return drive home when you are ready to depart. Drive to Croydon Airport : 32 miles drive from Hilliers Garden Centre via Boxhill to Croydon Airport Visitor Centre Car Park, CR0 0XZ. Description of the Day: Meet at Garden Centre from 1000hrs for refreshments. The suggestion is to have brunch at Hilliers Garden Centre as the Catering arrangements at the airport can get very busy. Our Tour starts at approximately 1400hrs in the Aerodrome Visitor Centre and will last about 1 1/2hrs. London Croydon Airport was once Britain’s major and only international gateway airport. As global air travel developed after World War 1 Croydon Airport played a significant part in early twentieth century British Aviation history. The Visitor Centre is located in the world?s oldest Air Traffic Control Tower in Airport House. Features include interactive displays, exhibits and visual images charting the history of Croydon Airport from World War I airfield through to being London?s international airport, use as a Battle of Britain airfield and ultimately closure in 1959. Food & Refreshments : The suggestion is to have a brunch at Hilliers Garden Centre as the Cloud Nine Cafeteria at the Airport is closed on Sunday. There is the Imperial Restaurant at the Airport, which can be entered from the Booking Hall and offers an Indian or Chinese menu. The Aerodrome Hotel is next door to the Visitor Centre and offers a range of well-presented sandwiches as well as a normal lunch menu, but can get very busy. Return Drive from Croydon Airport: Nothing planned for the return drive, so depart when you are ready.
