Suzuki Swift Sport Any Experiences?

I am considering buying a Suzuki Swift Sport, probably 1.6 N/A version introduced in
2012 (not the booster jet version). The idea is to use the Suzuki during wet/salt conditions to avoid using my MX5s. The Suzuki Swift is made in Hungary & is properly
treated underneath to cope with European conditions & is therefore less rust prone.
If there are any members who have experience of the Suzuki Sport I would appreciate
their input.

hi keith ,
i had a 66 plate ( 5 door , 28k miles ) for a couple of months

it was my daily driver , but i didn’t gel with it .
it had all the gadgets you need , averaged 40mpg and cheapish road tax,
the clutch always bit a bit too high for my liking ( typical swift i was told )
and not as quick as expected but good fun when it got going .
( fifth gear car show rave about them , plenty of youtube vids )
i paid £6500 in april sold it to WBAC for £6750 in july …now they would offer £8545 :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
would i have another … yes !!

My brother had one, loved it. Fun to drive on A roads and not bad on a motorway. Didn’t miss a beat and sailed through it’s mot’s.

Unfortunately some robbing “person” stole it off his drive. When he looked for a replacement they were about £1000 more than he’d paid for his 2 years earlier, for the same reg.

Great wee pocket rockets……buy one, you won’t regret it.

Iv’e had a 2014 and a 2016 Swift Sport, great little cars. Never had a problem with either of them.

Use to regularly drive from Peterborough to Newport South Wales (180 miles each way) and found them very comfortable, good on motorways and country back roads. A nippy fun car that thrives on revs. They go well on Shell V Power.

Just check the car has full Suzuki service history.

My daily driver is an earlier Swift - a year 2000, 3 cylinder, 993cc GLS hatchback.

It was bought as a car to teach my daughter to drive, almost eight years ago. It cost me £825 in 2014 with 14,000 miles on it and it’s still going strong! Rust will kill it soon but it’s undoubtedly been the most reliable car I’ve ever owned - at any price. It’s only ever let me down once, when it failed to start on the driveway after a few months of not being driven. It was caused by a corroded HT lead from the coil to the distributor. I had a spare lead and it took about five minutes to diagnose the fault and fit the new one. It still does 50 mpg on the motorway while at 65-70 mph and best of all, it cost me less than £100 to insure fully comp.

When it finally expires I’d certainly buy another, more modern Swift.

To All Who Replied
Thank You
All I need to do is to convince my wife that we need a 4th car, her thoughts are that
I should use her Fabia Monte Carlo TDI when conditions are less suitable for MX5s.
Sensible advice, but I fancy a Swift Sport.
I have yet to find a Sport within a 60 mile radius of LA2, plenty south of Birmingham.
I will continue my searching!!

Brother in law has one and he loves it, I’m on my second Vitara and love these as well. The 1.6 engine which is in mine which I assume is the same as the Swift is a peach, over 50 mpg on a run which isn’t bad for a 4x4 auto. Even considering one myself to replace our 2007 ZSport as being 40 mm lower the wife with a spinal problem is struggling.

I have had my 2014 Suzuki Swift Sport 1.6 since June 2022.
I must say it is a cracking car.
I had it fully serviced, all oils, fluids, filters, plugs by my trusted local garage who fitted
a slightly smaller exhaust resonator, gives a sharper tone above 3K rpm, still quiet enough for villages & no drone on motorways.
A trip to Thruxton for my first Truck Racing event, spectacular, but once is enough!
Then to Reidy Remaps Wincanton BA9 8AP where Mathew worked some magic
resulting in a significant increase torque from 2.5k-5k rpm. I wanted, mid range improvement rather than higher bhp @ 7k rpm, & that is what I got.
97/99 octane averaging 44 mpg.
Other tweaks, fog lights converted to DRL’s plus decent Leds front & rear.
The Swifts are made in Hungary, properly treated to withstand the rigours of salted
European winter roads, my two MX5s will benefit from not being driven when road
conditions are better suited to the Swift. The MX5s will of course still be driven in
winter in the right road conditions, no Sorning!!
I doubt Suzuki will make a Swift “MX5” but it would be an interesting car if they did.

Glad your enjoying your swift Keith :white_check_mark::white_check_mark:
I’m booked in for a test drive in the newer (68plate) 1.4 turbo version :red_car::red_car::red_car::red_car:
According to YouTube these are a hoot to drive :+1:t3::+1:t3:

Bally 3
According to Reidy Remaps 180+ bhp is not difficult to achieve with the Swift 1.4 turbo.
I might just book a test drive in 1.4 turbo in standard form.
Have fun
Keith
