Synthetic or Mineral Oil for Trans and LSDiff?

I decided to change my trans and diff oil and found different recommendations online. I usually use synthetic because of it’s longevity, but some people say it messes up the syncronizers in the transmission. Others say the LSD won’t engage or start ratling. Anyone has tried the AMSOIL heavy duty oil? It says it should work with LSDs.

Thanks!

Many years ago when I looked into it there were lots of recommendations for this stuff, I have been changing mine every 24 months just to be on the safe side because of high mileages and a bit competition work SFAIK it is the numbers 75W 90 that are important.

Interesting question and I know nothing. There have been huge changes in the combustion engine over the years so an equal change in the oils servicing it is not surprizing. But the gearbox and diffs? Less so, at least in ordinary road cars.
So maybe there could be a case for mineral oils? Interesting if someone here ‘ knows their onions’ on this subject.

I’m assuming it’s for an NB from your avatar

Thank you! It is an 98 NB. That’s why I’m asking is this is really a thing. People say that synthetics weren’t invented by then so these cars might not work well with it.

If I’m not mistaken this car was develop with Ford so this would make sense. Thanks!

Those people are talking out of their ass, synthetics came out in the '70s, Mobil and Amsoil come to mind and probably others
