Tape stuck in cassette player

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __V Spec Eunos Roadster
  2. I’m based near: __East Yorkshire
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: _tape player

I have a very basic radio-cassette player in my Eunos Roadster. It works - as in it plays cassettes and fast forwards and rewinds but the eject has stopped working and the tape is now stuck in the player. As much as I love Sparks, I don’t necessarily want to listen to a tape of their music all the time. Any suggestions on how to get the cassette out of the tape player? Many thanks.

There are worse things to be stuck with than a Sparks album! Which one is it? Kimono My House? A Woofer In Tweeter’s Clothing? Or something later?

My experience with cassette players (a while ago now…) was that you really needed to remove them from the car, open up the lid, and then it was usually fairly obvious how to remove the tape. As to the eject mechanism, it’s possible that one of the small springs involved has finally given up the ghost and will need to be replaced, or that one of the many plastic pieces has broken (in which case an economic repair is exceedingly unlikely).

Good luck.

A fellow Sparks fan. Super. Sparks actually sell their albums on cassette now, so I bought their two latest albums on cassette, but the one stuck is a tape I made of Number One in Heaven - 40th Anniversary Edition. It sounds like I will be listening to Sparks for a while. My car is going to Oliver Wild in the Autumn, so he could have a look at the tape player. Worse case scenario, I will have to replace it with a modern unit. Boo!

You may be able to jimmy out the tape with a thin plastic ruler, provided the tape itself hasn’t tangled up on the spindle - but if it doesn’t look like it’s going to come out easily I’d agree with @Philip .

I’d be surprised if it’s nothing worse than the aforementioned spring.

Thank you. I will try that.
