Taxing a vehicle with a V5C at a post office

But evidently it is, given that you’ve already had one abortive trip there!

I am curious about the aversion to paying for tax on the gov.uk website - I use a credit card (single annual payment) and never give it a second thought. It’s definitely easier than going to a post office.

Don’t worry, I’ll survive a second one

Well, they don’t make it easy. I tried TWICE via card, and twice said not authorized. Nothing wrong with the card, 16 digit and exp date or 3 back digits. Two people reading it out too
Oh well, can’t say I didn’t try lol
Edit: Tried a 3rd time, still no dice.

Post office is kind of easier after all

It isn’t that process. Single payment method = 16 digit card number, exp date, and 3 digit security code.

Unless your Post Office is not within easy walking distance/easy to park close by…….mine aren’t

and you’ve become somewhat ‘cream crackered’ :smiling_face_with_tear:

Prior to becoming officially ‘cream crackered’ I always paid by DD and yes there was a surcharge if you don’t pay once a year

Initially I was anxious about this [giving out bank details] but nothing bad happened

As I slowly descended into ‘cream crackerdom’ the process became a greater pain in that I couldn’t use the Post Office to tax Bullit but had to send all original docs to DVLA including paper evidence of me being ‘cream crackered’ [so had to go to the Post Office any way to post said original docs ……go figure that wisdom]. Slightest error on my part and they’d send it all back !

NOT FUN

Powers that be eventually recognized this and now it’s easy ….get the Reminder and just do it on-line

Perhaps it’s because Bullit and me as owner have now been in the mega-databases [purchased 2007] for so long and we haven’t moved address in over 10 years

And even though Bullit is now registered as my Disability Vehicle [because I became disabled after purchase] and I don’t pay any monies

I STILL have to ‘Tax’ her once a year when the reminder comes in

On-line they have all her info viz Tax n MOT

[So ND12 you don’t have to fret the details]

Hope this helps in some small way because the machines rather than common sense are winning :zipper_mouth_face:

PS

Imagine the stress of having to send all your original docs to DVLA and wait weeks for their return !

Resistance is Futile in the Rise of the Machines

Re: Problems with your Card being recognised

Few weeks ago my Debit Card was declined Twice at my local Tesco [shopping there over 10 years]

PANIC !

Don’t normally have loads of money in accounts but been saving for Bullit respray & new navigator [Cocker Spaniel puppy]

Thought I’d been hacked !!

Long story short……….turned out problem was because Tesco had not updated their card readers

Quite often it isn’t you but them :handshake:

I run two cars and three motorcycles and have adopted a fully digital approach to tracking MOTs, VED and servicing, or I would always forget something. I live in SW London and even here we lost local post offices years ago.
I think there is enough to keep track of in modern life, so I welcome the simplicity of online renewals and payments. I appreciate that this is not for everyone but having chosen this option I could not imagine having to go back to payments in person and queuing for each service.

I bank entirely online (using some banks without a high street presence) and have never experienced any problems or losses with any processes. I bought my ND privately a few months ago via bank transfer and online ownership transfer instantly.
Anyhow, good luck with resolving this in a way that works for you.

I did it in the end online. It was me being a clown and getting the security number wrong, as it is kind of smudged given it lives in my pockets when out and about. My Mrs sussed it out, which led me to say ‘you were right and i was wrong’

I’ve actually got the up! gti to do too, as I got it late Aug of last year, and of course it backdates to the start of the month when you buy a car. I’m going to wait a week or so for the E11 though!

I quite like using the ‘high street’ whenever i can, I must admit. So many places close down these days, with people often moaning…yet if they used them they’d still be open.

Slightly off topic, we have a lovely Art Deco cinema in St Albans called The Odyssey.
It has a long and fascinating history, but like many others, was closed due to lack of use - TV/Blockbusters etc. After nearly 20 years it reopened and is a great place to go with a wide variety of stuff old and new. We visit often, (recently saw The French Connection) but i have noticed a drop in numbers, hope it’s only a blip. :crossed_fingers: Odyssey Cinema, St Albans - Wikipedia

Excuse the off topic too, but you learn something everyday. Geography this time. I’ve always thought St. Albans was in Cornwall, until I googled St. Albans and saw it kind of isn’t lol.

I always tax my bikes online and pay by DD. Then its easier to SORN them during the winter and stop paying. May well do the same with the MX5 if i end up not using it in the winter months.

You’re probably thinking of St Austell.

Hi ND12

Congrats for successful on-line renewal …….it took me a couple of goes the first time for a different reason……then a year later I had to try and remember what I’d done the year before

Decline of the high street is most sad. Here in Newcastle-under-Lyme as I suspect many town centers the parking charges are deliberately restrictive. There are ‘free times’ though where you can park very close to your destination …..just as well….. as for me it’s Specsavers appointments   :innocent:

More likely St Agnes. Nobody thinks of St Austell, it’s a dump

It was St. Ives I was thinking off. I think, anyway
