Re: Halfords…
There’s quite a difference between running a highly focused mail order operation, and maintaining and operating a large chain of multi product retail stores… in running costs. The great advantage of Halfords is that they are usually not too far away…, they are open at all sorts of hours…, and you can see , feel, and touch a lot of what they have for sale. All of that costs money, which you and I as customers eventually pay for.
Tayna…
They operate, as I recall, from what appears to be a unit on an industrial estate in Wales.
I’ve bought 3 or 4 batteries from Tayna, for several cars, over the last number of years. They have always arrived very quickly, and very well packaged.
A couple of the batteries have been ‘yer basic cheapo battery’…, Tayna badge them as their Powerline brand. One of these was a Heavy Duty which went into my then daily Peugeot 406 HDI. Never a problem. The other, at around £40’ish, went into my MX5 to replace the Panasonic which had finally died. I chose it because I was slightly skint at the time, the car was on a SORN over winter, and I just needed something to occasionally start the car up, and that fitted into the standard Mk1 battery tray.
After a couple of months, one of the cells failed. I bunged in an old, spare battery. Covid arrived, and after about a year, I wrote to Tayna. They promptly sent out a new replacement. That was about 20 months ago. Still works fine.
I also bought a Varta Blue type 063 ( standard small car size ) for my daily Yaris from Tayna. Currently around £55. Top brand, made in same factory as the equivalent Bosch as I recall. I think it’s really the same battery as the Bosch, just that the Bosch name adds a few pounds.
Overall, if I absolutely needed a battery NOW, TODAY…, I’d have no problem buying from Halfords. Otherwise, tomorrow morning is fine for me. As is Tayna.
