Ah fair enough, no worries really, not sure how clean my car will be anyway with all the dirty hands around the workshop lol
He says heās not experienced, but he did a blinding job on my car [Y]
Dan,
Bring it along, as clean as possible, and weāll see what we can do!Ā
Christ, my job list keeps getting bigger! As well as the brakes and starter motor, I need to change the rear discs and pads and the cam belt tensioner and idler pulleys! I think Iāll try to get some jobs done before the tech day, otherwise Iām gonna be there all weekend!!
Ā Fergy, any chance you could bring your timing gun again please mate? I decided to be brave and change my cam pulleys yesterday but it went horribly wrong! As I took one of the pulleys off the Inlet Cam skipped a tooth, which made me go into a fit of panic as I have absolutely no idea what Iām doing when it comes to cam belts and all related stuff (I shouldnāt have attempted the pulleys really!!) So I went by the manual and set the cams to TDC, and after realising that the crank needed to be set as well, set that to what I thought was TDC. I put it all back together, turned the key and it sounded horrible. I was told that it was too far advanced, so adjusted the CAS a few times but still no joy. Anyway, long story short (ish!) Iād set the crank to the wrong position (thereās another bit of plastic that sticks out at about 9 o clock!) so I had to strip it all down again and set it right. Due to the lack of space, Iām now covered in bruises!!
Anyway, as I donāt know a thing about timing and such, would I have damaged anything in the engine by setting the crank wrong and trying to start it up? There was a bit of smoke when I took the cam cover off [:|]
Gary
Will bring the light, but we will need to check the cam timing, The TDC mistake is a easy mistake as TDC comes round only every 720 degrees, so two revolutions of the crank. the engine shpuld be fine as the engine is non interference so valves and piston donāt hit. A little smoke frome the cam cover is normal , Is the car running ok now ? if not then i could come over to you at the weekend if needed. Remember your bottom pully didnāt have a timing mark.
Oh good, I can relax a bit now then. I was so worried that Iād have damaged something, I keep expecting the engine to blow up or something!!
The carās running fine now, if anything itās smoother now than it was before! Is Cam timing different then, or is it the same as we tried before? I found the timing mark on the bottom pulley, it is there just not coloured in! I marked it with touch up paint (as itās all I could find at the time!) but as my carās blue we may struggle to see it. Iāve got to get under the car at the tech day anyway to change my starter, so Iāll bring some white paint and fill it in again.
Ā Iāve got it, we will be the first region to have a tech week. [:D]
Thatāll be one hell of a cake Fergy has to bake!
Ā Iāve heard of cakes with files in them, but never timing lights!
I will have to eat my tools
Sorry, I feel like Iām taking the mick a bit here with my massive job list [:$]
Donāt worry Gary, if Fergy ever gets involved with similar jobs on our cars he would have learnt from his mistakes on your car!!!Ā
Fergy,
Hope you have unpacked your cook books since moving; baking to be done this week! Do you still want the tea urn?Ā
Is there still room for more people in this? I donāt need/want anything specific doing right now but Iād love to have some people who know their stuff advise me on what I do need to get done to my car regarding gearchange, clutch, handling etc. I can tell what isnāt quite right but not why.

damn im working that day [:(]
+1
Although I see that there might by the opportunity to have an alignment done. Do you need to book this?
It really depends on how many people want their alignment done. Itās best to book to make sure, so give them a call.
Iām a late comer but I booked in for an alignment on the way home from work today. They only have two firm bookings for alignments so Iām sure theyāll be able to accomodate you. The two bookings are 8.30 and me at 9.30. So now I just need to concentrate on getting my coilovers fitted before Saturday morningā¦
