Terraclean

Just came back from having my NC engine cleaned using the Terraclean system. This removes carbon deposits that build up inside the engine reducing performance and efficiency. Took just over an hour to do and cost £95. First impressions are that the engine now runs much smoother and there’s a noticeable improvement in throttle response and acceleration. It will be a while before I can see if there is any improvement in fuel consumption but in theory if the engine is running more efficiently then fuel consumption should improve. I know a number of MX5 owners have had their cars done and based on my first impressions I’d say it’s well worth doing if your car has high mileage on it. Got mine done at Swiftest in Aldershot (www.swiftest.co.uk). Very helpful chaps and would definitely recommend them.

Took the car out for a good run today with the Solent group. Noticed that on the run down to Winchester fuel consumption seemed to be higher than before the engine was cleaned. I was a little concerned but then noticed as the run went on it improved significantly such that by the end of the run the onboard computer was indicating a 3-4mpg improvement on what I was getting before.I know onboard computers aren’t always very reliable but just looking at the fuel gauge it seemed to be using less fuel. The engine was definitely running better, particularly at speed and on acceleration. Overall, I’d say the Terraclean has been a success. Next up the car is going in for a major service in two weeks so everything should be in tip top condition in time for the national rally.
