The best MX5 NB wheels?

Afternoon all!

 

So I’m on the endless quest for the perfect wheel. I know there is no such thing but I’m trying to get as close as possible. I have a 98 NB in Green and I currently have some kind of Enkei rims which came with the car but I rarely see online.

I’m looking for a new set and eventually I’ll sort the old battered Enkei’s out.

Here are my criteria:

  • Relatively lightweight (sub 8kgs)

  • 5 Spoke, probably silver

  • About £500 per set

  • Not tin-foil replicas

  • Straight swap without any arch rolling.

Team Dynamics Pro Race 3. They fit the bill in every respect but I never see any pics of them on an MX5 and I’m wondering why? Anyone tried them? I see loads of Pro Race 1.2 but never the 3.

 

I’ve also looked at Advanti Storm (US only?), Rota Grids (essentially posh replicas), Enkei RFP1  (lush but pricey) and Konig Wideopen and I’m still not 100% sure.

 

Anyone with other ideas for an NB in green? Anyone got Pro Race 3s? Pics would be awesome.

Pro Race 3 are a Rally wheel, they are heavy, relatively, and designed to give clearance for stones to be away from brakes.

I have a set of TrakLite Burn wheels in Matt Black that you can have for £500, they are 5 spoke, Flow Form so strong and even though 8" width will fit straight to your car without bodywork being required. They are also 2kg or 30% lighter than the PR3. You will notice this difference.

Cheers for the reply Nick. Love the Traklites! I just wouldn’t want them in black, I’m looking for something in silver or even possibly white. Incredible weight for such a wide wheel and suitable for a straight swap? I’m sure someone here will bite your hand off!

If you can wait a month I will have plenty of TrakLite Gear wheels in 15x7" White, Black or Silver. 

Or I have one set of 15x8 in Matt Bronze at the moment.
