The cd slot mount

I know this has been mentioned earlier on the forum.but in the meantime I wondered if anyone had bought and used one of these mounts.

A couple of days ago I took the plunge and decided to purchase one, as it was only£10.  It arrived this morning so I stuck it in the CD slot not realising that it wasn’t designed for a multi disc as fitted to Cariad. Anyway, I have never used the CD player  as I’ve copied all my CD  library on to a little 8Gb mp3 player which plugs in (mini jack) to the audio unit. Cds stay at home.

The little piece of moulded plastic fitted perfectly into the Cd slot and was held quite firmly, however, after sticking the sat nav on the the  sticky pad it became obious that it was almost impossible to see the display as there were strong reflections in the glass even with the roof on. God knows what it would be like with the roof off. Unfortunately it is not possible to adjust  the angle between the bit that inserts into the cd slot and the bit that holds the sticky pad as it a one piece plastic moulding.

So, out came the hack saw,   separating the two bits , a little filing and trimming they are now araldited together at an approx right angle. Using a small drill bit to allow two  15 mm x M3 machine screws at either end for strengthening will complete the job, reflections gone.

I thought I might pass the little story on.

I have also emailed cdslotmount.com suggesting they insert a stiff hinge between the two bits so the angle can be adjusted in situ.

You have to lower you eye line a little , as its usually mounted on top of the dash, but I understand that the police have some issues with blocking the windscreen or so I’ve heard? I drove it approx 10 miles this morning, no vibration, no reflections with roof off, however no strong sun either.

I had a reply from cdslotmount.com saying they are working on a new design which will have a hinge Wink
