The fog light issue with mk1 imports šŸ˜²

Would a red LED not be a better solution than a piece of vinyl reducing the light from an ordinary bulb.
Brighter and draws less current too

I have a high bright red led bulb in mine. Works OK and never been an MOT issue since its import.

However, itā€™s not as bright as a ā€œproperā€ fog light as the lens isnā€™t designed as such. It does keep the rear of mine looking original though.

I did the conversion from the rear block under the bumper to using the reverse light.
Iā€™ve used an LED that shines red but itā€™s very weak and has been deteriorating.
Rather than gamble another random LED red shining bulb can you tell me what one and where you got yours from please?

It was an Amazon purchase P21W red ultrabright bulb, canā€™t remember what exact brand. Sorry I canā€™t be more helpful. I checked my old Amazon purchases and couldnā€™t find it.

Hi there, on the bulbs still;

So Iā€™ve installed the second LED (from the two that bought);
Itā€™s a clear bulb that shines Red which is nice but really not that bright and I expect itā€™ll deteriorate in colour & brightness like itā€™s twin over timeā€¦

I bought a Philips Red painted standard bulb which shines very bright but get this;
The pins are offset!
Offset as in not opposite pins but also one pin is night than the other along the cylinder base.
Iā€™ve looked online but Iā€™ve not been able to find a Red bulb with opposite pins.

Strange then that the Red LED ones are opposite pins!

Hi thanks Iā€™ll take a lookā€¦ where the pins opposite I guess? No offset?

Symmetrical from memory.

Just did a search on Amazon for ā€œp21w ultra bright redā€ and it bought up a long list.

Being Amazon, it also lists things you didnā€™t ask for, such as white etc.

Lots of conversions there!

Itā€™s a shame the fuel flap is on the passenger side as itā€™d be neat if a red fog bulb was hidden in thereā€¦

I found a standard glass bulb was strong enough in the driverside reverse light pocket.
The inside of the cluster you opened up;
It looks like the silver paint is quite quite weak/ deteriorated for all bulbs as reflectors.
Would be a good idea to get some silver/ chrome paint on those reflector sections whilst itā€™s open and also install a red film on the inside lens of the reverse light, or a vinyl sticker ( like those found in a rear cluster temporary repair kit).
