The Grand Tour - One For The Road

The final outing of the Clarkson, Hammond and May partnership is now available on Amazon Prime.

I thought it was a good ending to what has been 22 years of them working together. Whatever your opinion of the trio the team that produces it has consistently delivered a strong cinematographic performance that has elevated motoring/entertainment significantly.

Best 2 hours telly I’ve spent in weeks. Great outro tracks. Got a bit dusty here tbh.

Plan to watch it tonight. End of an era, inspired many by remaining entertaining and engaging.

Plan to watch it tomorrow after F1.

Will certainly shed some tears :smiling_face_with_tear:

Just finished watching , great ending, definitely seemed like I got some dust in my eye towards the end …… Brothers in arms fffffffffff

Whatever their appeal as entertainers I gather they earned the country huge amounts of foreign money at a time when manufacturing in this country was in serious decline and if nothing else they should be congratulated for that. They obviously got something right.

Top show, top boys, man what a career to have.

The adventures on the specials , great stuff.

Hats off to all involved in this great piece of television history… (Top gear / Grand Tour)

Having worked abroad for many years in the past I get the bond that is forged between guys.

Jesus, my eyes are filling up

I have watched it yesterday, what a career these men have had, and what cars they have driven.
at the end my eyes turned a bit watery.

but… I still see room for another road trip coming in the distant future called “the Reunion” .

During the road trip they often made fun of Hammond with “Button”? I did not get that. What did they mean by that ? Anyone ?

Both his friends believe he will have a career in panto as the character “Buttons”

I wish they had put the personas aside for the final episode, and shown more of themselves. Perhaps they can’t - it doesn’t really fit with the scripted performance and the high level of pretence required.

I was disappointed that they thought it necessary to throw what looked like a perfectly serviceable car off a precipice.

It kept me engaged for two hours but I was quite glad when it was over.

The scenery was terrific.

The original Botswana Top Gear Special is currently on BBC iPlayer. Well worth watching if you’ve not seen it and worth a rewatch if you have. The “best comb over “ scene is hilarious.

Stand out quote for me was Clarkie explaining why he was ending the series: “Electric cars are ■■■■!”

After watching it I did feel sad that we won’t see any new content from them. But then we have years worth of shows and specials to go back to and enjoy for (possibly?) ever.
I am just glad I was here for the latter half of their careers. Started watching each Top Gear episode from season 1 back in 2012 until I caught up to the current episodes. Even so I feel it has been a journey and I am happy for them that they got to finish it on their own terms.
