the immobiliser warning light

Hi, can someone with a similar aged mx5 NB (1999), just confirm for me what the immobilizer system warning light does? in the manual it says “if the immobilizer system is working propperly, the light will come on when the ignition is turned to the START position. The light will go out when the engine starts.” With mine (and I’m having some intermittent trouble with the car) the warning light does not come on until the engine actually starts, and then it goes out a couple of seconds after. If I turn the ignition to the last click (so everything is on but not so far that the engine turns over) then the warning light is not on. I’m not sure if the manual is wrong or if I’m interpretting it wrong so could someone let me know what it does for them?

cheers

not quite like that - I got the details here - http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/p/41066/291550.aspx#291550

My 1999 S2 does exactly the same as yours and has from new so I hope it’s as it should be!

Thanks - that’s what I needed to know. Those manuals are too vague.

Just to comfirm my 1997 immobilisor (key) light comes on only after the car starts and goes off just as fast, i also have a constant red flashing light that goes off when car is started aftermarket i think
