The ND gearbox can't be too bad!

Just seen this in relation to Caterham’s new Horse Powertrain engines. ‘Caterham has settled upon using the six-speed gearbox from the current Mazda MX-5’

At least some people have confidence in the ND gearbox!!

If the engine delivers no more than 20 NM of torque, it should be alright

Who would have bet against that?

really?! wow.

i dont know the laws of torque… but i wonder if they will encounter less stress on it? even if the engine output is the same (?) they may be using a different diff and lighter vehicle weight. which i guess reduces gearbox stresses? (dunno, common-sense assumption, so may be physically completely wrong  )

Wow I bet that doesn’t last long with the turbo engine that they have picked. Think they might end up making their own internals long term which can only be good news for us MX-5 boys and girls:grin::+1:. Sure I’ve read somewhere that BBR changes to the NC gearbox when they go for big power versions. Yep I was right see the below link.

So glad I went for an NC when I decided to start to build a future track useable car.

Most kit cars (Westfield/gbs/mk Indy) running serious power use the nc box. Very surprised if they’ve chosen to go with the nd box seems a silly idea
